New Warhammer 40,000 Balance Dataslate Available

Just three months ago we reported on the first Balance Dataslate for Warhammer 40,000. Today Games Workshop released the second of the quarterly Balance Dataslates via Warhammer Community. Each iteration of the dataslate incorporates modifications to matched play creating a fairer and balanced gaming experience.

The current Balance Dataslate retains the beneficial changes to Astra Militarum, Necrons, and Knights. The rewording of Chaos Space Marines ‘Death to the False Emperor’ remains the same. Meanwhile Orks and Flyers continue to exist under their unit restrictions.

The greatest changes from first to second occur to the Drukhari and Adeptus Mechanicus.

Drukhari

While the massive changes in points have been incorporated into Chapter Approved 2022, continued Drukhari dominance needed more changes. Consequently, we’re seeing both the Talos and Chronos losing the CORE keyword. This minor change limits previously abused Stratagems and Aura abilities.

Additionally, Artists of the Flesh Obsession no longer triggers with weapons of Strength 8 or greater. Units with this obsession remain durable against most weapons. However, even the greatest flesh conversions cannot match the deadliest of weapns!

Adeptus Mechanicus

In the first dataslate the Adeptus Mechanicus had an entire page of emergency point changes. Chapter Approved 2022 takes precedence. Consequently, except for the flyer limitations, the Adeptus Mechanicus isn’t changed by the dataslate.

FAQs

At the same time as the Balance Dataslate arrived, Games Workshop unleashed a tidal wave of 21 revised Errata and Designer Commentary files. The Updates, Errata, and FAQs cover many of our favorite armies including SPace Marines, Drukhari, Necrons, Adepta Sororitas, and Adeptus Mechanicus.

Probably the most important one would be for popular Crusade Narrative play mode. Entitled Power Rating Update, the document contains 41 pages of changes covering 25 separate factional minisheets. This one is a must have!

Dig into the factions you play and those your opponent fields. You may find some surprising advantages or challenge your interpretations. However, remember while these rules will be in effect for official Games Workshop events they remain optional elsewhere. Talk with your players, keep what you like, and ditch the rest. It is your game. Play it your way!
