Last week we found the Death Guard becalmed in the warp. The currents of the Immaterium having delayed their arrival from December 2020 to January 2021. Or, perhaps, they’re just adjusting to Grandfather Nurgles latest gift. Either way, now is the time to tally the Death Guard changes GW has announced so far.
A Death Guard Detachment ability, Inexorable Advance allows both Infantry and Vehicles to pound the enemy as they maneuver on the battlefield. Even infantry heavy weapons retain full effectiveness while moving! The thirds part of the ability prevents many of those nasty stratagems your opponent uses to pull your charges up short.
Death Guard, despite falling to chaos, retain their bolter discipline. Additionally, as long as you don’t Advance or Fall Back, Inexorable Advance keeps it active when you move. Synergies!
We were told before, Chaos Marines would receive the second Wound that Space Marines got with their codex. GW confirmed it in the shown stat line. Two wounds on an already hard Toughness 5 chassis with Disgustingly Resilient equals bad days ahead for your opponent.
Possessed see a major set of improvements. Instead of a random number (D3) of attacks in melee, they get a solid four. On top of that, their horrifying mutations gain the Plague Weapon ability. Also, according to the reveal, they’re receiving the standard second Wound, Remorseless and Contagions of Nurgle abilities.
While only showing the Defiler stat line, GW suggested across the board improvements to the Death Guard’s other Daemon Engines. They should receive similarly improved WS, BS, and attacks.
Finally, as consolation for the delayed Death Guard, we have the new Mortarion datasheet. He weighs in at the same 490 points from the current Codex, so take him out for a test drive in any of the three modes of play.
Games Workshop undoubtedly has many more Death Guard changes to display over the coming weeks. Contagions of Nurgle will be of great interest to players as it is showing for both Mortarion and the Possessed. I expect we’ll see it on Plague Marines, Daemon Engines, and maybe even more units.
Check back for the latest changes round up as we collect them.
