Not even two months ago Games Workshop showed us a Drukhari sneak peek focused on the Piety and Pain battlebox. At the time, I expected we’d see an end of January release. Well, I missed that date. Today however, Games Workshop decided to make a Warhammer Community post highlighting Kabalite Warriors. So, let’s reset the clock for Pain and Piety and place it alongside the expected Codex: Drukhari. Can I get a second chance for March 2021?
In any case, we do have new information to share. Below is the new Kabalite Warriors box for 9th edition. And where you have a new box, you’ll find a new rules insert, with vital clues to changes in the Codex.
Kabalite Warrior
The complete datasheet has yet to be found in the wild, but here is GW’s Drukhari sneak peek for the stock Kabalite Warrior. Largely similar to the 8th edition line, the new improved Kabalite gains an Attack and a better save.
As a stock ranged warrior, Kabalites aren’t noted for being good at melee. However, the extra attack here probably means it will translate throughout the Drukhari range. Maybe even for all Aeldari as new books roll out.
The improved save makes me even happier. That armor provides total body coverage and is made of sterner stuff than flak. It should have been better than Imperial Guard issue. Again, I’m hoping to see the same attention paid to Craftworld Guardians when they’re refurbished and for the same reasons.
Splinter Cannon
Our next Drukhari sneak peek looks at the splinter cannon. Of immediate note is the increase from Damage 1 to Damage 2. A single unfailed save will down a Space Marine. looks like splinter cannons will be the heavy bolter equivalent for Drukhari.
On the other hand, it moves from Rapid Fire to Heavy. However, unlike previous editions, this does not prevent fire, just makes it one harder. The splinter cannon will be hitting on 4+ when the squad moves.
Naturally, it retained the Poisoned Weapon rule.
I like the new Kabalite stat line. I’m more wishy-washy on the splinter cannon. I expect we’ll see more weapons upgrading to Damage 2 as new books release. However, how effective the new splinter cannon will be heavily depends on changes made to other customary Kabalite support weapons.
In any case, Games Workshop has a large number of Drukhari sneak peeks they can use between now and release. Check back to see what develops.
